Who should be tested for ADHD?

People who have experienced some or all of the following traits, including some since childhood, may benefit from a formal ADHD evaluation:

  • Difficulty completing work, assignments, or other tasks

  • Lack of focus or challenges regulating focus and attention
  • Poor attention to detail

  • Procrastination and difficulties with motivation

  • Disorganization

  • Easily distracted

  • Forgetful in daily activities

  • Fidgeting or squirming in seat

  • Difficulty awaiting one's turn

  • Difficulty playing or working quietly

  • Persistent restlessness

  • Excessive talking or interrupting

  • Impulsivity

While ADHD evaluations for children and teens may be more well-known, many adults experience undiagnosed ADHD that impacts their work/school performance, social-emotional functioning, and overall mental health. Those with undiagnosed ADHD face a higher risk of mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. It can also cause trouble with focus, motivation, and managing emotions, affecting daily life at school, work, or home. Undiagnosed ADHD can lead to risky, impulsive behaviors and may be tied to lower self-esteem and a higher risk of self-harm.

If you or your child experiences persistent difficulties with focus, impulsivity, or hyperactivity that significantly impact daily life, a formal evaluation may provide the needed clarity and access to resources and intervention options. For adults, it's never too late to be evaluated!
